About the Artist
Julie Ver Steegh studied Visual Communications at Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State University) in Kirksville, Missouri, and received her BA in Art from Central College in Pella, Iowa. A native of Iowa, Julie supports her artist’s habit with a full-time job as a senior graphic designer for a corporate in-house creative services team.
With more than 25 years of experience in corporate in-house design, Julie has helped build corporate identities using everything from business cards to buildings. Marketing products ranging from lace to international power systems components, she enjoys the wide variety of projects and opportunities an in-house creative team encounters. Every day is a little different, and every day brings the chance to try or learn something new.
In addition to her work in the digital world, Julie celebrates subjects in a wide variety of media including photography, watercolor, gouache, block printing, colored pencil, conté crayons, and pen and ink. She selects her medium by studying the light and texture of the subject at hand, but finds watercolor and gouache are her current favorites because the paint serves as a partner in the creative process, moving and growing to add to the overall vision. Julie’s work is influenced by a fascination for Renaissance and Impressionist art, and a love for her native Iowa.
